Working at Pace I was one of the lucky (?) few to be given a BRAND NEW 2006 Freightliner Business Class day cab tractor to exclusively drive. Mercedes engine, straight 7 speed. I only drove it for a couple months, now i'm back in the much better old Volvo tractors.

It looks nice. But Freightliners come pretty cheap. The WOW factor dies once you get inside the cab. The engine runs at high RPM's to burn fuel cleaner but this means that there's less low end power. Don't even try to lug one of these below 1500 rpm, even with an empty trailer it'll feel like your trying to pull 20 tons up hill. Best to keep it between 1600 and 2300 rpm's. Much different from the Volvos that made up the rest of our fleet. The Volvos operated at 1100 to 1600 rpm's with more power then that Freightliner would ever know.

While I drove the same tractor every day, we rarely got the same trailers. This was, in my opinion, one of our nicest trailers. It's a 48' long, 13' 3" high, 102" wide dryvan with a roll-up door. These trailers, built by Vanco, are the best riding trailers I've ever pulled.
